MANY readers will be aware of the forthcoming industrial action taking place nationally on Thursday, January 29, as part of trade union action relating to a pay dispute.

The Christie has written to all patients who are due to attend any of our centres on Thursday to reassure them that their treatment will go ahead in spite of strike action.

We are hopeful there will be no impact on transport services for oncology patients.

Our main priority is to ensure the continuity of patient care. However, there may be some disruption to services and so waiting times on the day may be affected as a result. We will make sure that you are kept informed on the day if waiting times are longer than usual.

Patients with any queries or concerns about their visit on Thursday can contact us on the following numbers:

•Trust switchbord 0161 446 3000

•Transport 0161 446 8143 / 8295

•Appointments 0161 446 3346 / 3347

•Information Centre 0161 446 8107 /8100

•Patient Advisory Line 0161 446 8217

•Radiotherapy (Christie) 0161 446 3485

•Radiotherapy (Oldham) 0161 918 7700

•Radiotherapy (Salford) 0161 918 7800

The trade unions have also asked their members to take part in further action, between January 30 and 24th February 24. This may involve some staff choosing to work only their agreed hours and terms and conditions, rather than working more flexibly or doing overtime. Further information will be provided on The Christie website if this has a significant impact; however we are working hard to minimise any disruption to patients.
