I SUPPORT Stuart Whittle's letter regarding the proposed development around Cheadle Square.

I think it's a great idea to locate part of the university in the Crescent itself. However we shouldn't make claims about it being like Cambridge, on the contrary, the Crescent is Bolton and Bolton at its best.

I've always admired the scale and curve of the Crescent from both the town centre and the bus station sides. An essential part of the view from the bus station is the open green that runs from Cheadle Square and `sets off' the Crescent. This would obviously be lost if the development went ahead as illustrated. Green spaces are as important as buildings to the town's environment. The public needs an overview of plans for the town centre, and, specifically in this instance, what is intended for the large space that will be left when the bus station is relocated. Please don't allow piecemeal planning decisions to ruin the handsome vista we enjoy at present,
