COUNCILLOR Morris has decided to admonish Stuart Whittle re comments on the proposed Academic Village.

Mr Whittle is quite right to voice his concerns in having student accommodation behind the Crescent regardless of the design or quality of the building.

Any University development should be catered for on what will be a defunct bus station and the derelict land, formerly the Odeon Cinema adjacent to 'The Market'.

Cllr Morris tells us that when plans are finalised they will be submitted for organisations and individuals to make their views known. Why? This Council railroads all their proposals through planning regardless.

The Market Hall had more than 80,000 objections and went through and 4000 leaflets were sent out to the Bolton public to vote on the relocation of the new Bus Station, 306 leaflets were returned with 56% in favour.

Considering we have a population of over 260,000 this is hardly 'overwhelming in favour'

These figures are taken from 'The Bolton Town Centre Strategy. which can be found on the internet for all to see.

I never read anything in it about destroying Bradshawgate to create a ghetto of pubs and nightclubs, where most families will not go in the evening.

Maybe it was all part of the plan to cater for all the students that will be descending on Bolton. I am sorry Councillor Morris but as a 74-year-old Boltonian born and bred I have watched what was a wonderful town and a great place to live in being destroyed.
