WITH the increase in recent years of empty premises in the town centre there has also been an increase in the problem of fly posters being plastered onto windows and exteriors of vacant buildings (the old Ikon nightclub being a prime example).

We all agree that fly posters are unsightly and give a bad impression of the town but what I can never understand is why the practice continues to thrive.

Every fly poster will advertise a business or a forthcoming event. Instead of trying to track down the people physically putting the posters up why not just prosecute the company being promoted, after all, they are the only party to benefit from the promotion and must therefore be responsible for employing people who put the posters up? Or does this sound like too much common sense?
