AS I was again collecting signatures in Cheadle Square from people opposing the proposed building of student flats there, it occurred to me that if the plan goes ahead it will of course mean the loss of parking along with the consequent loss of revenue for the council.

Any residential plan must include of course, parking for the residents, in this case the students. Public car parking space in the town centre, something important for the disabled, will be lost as students and their visitors take over the area. This ridiculous state of affairs is enthusiastically supported by the leader of the Council.

There are many reasons why this ill-thought out idea (student accommodation on Cheadle Square) should never have got past the discussion stage. The loss of town centre parking for the public is just another to be added to the list.
