I WOULD like to thank The Bolton News for the informative feature about Bolton Samaritans' 50th Anniversary and also for the supportive Comment on the Letters page; 'Why our Samaritans play such a vital role' (March 30 2015).
I would like to clarify to your readers that Samaritans do not give advice. We don't talk people into or out of anything. We listen and help people talk through their concerns, worries and troubles. If someone wants specific advice, we may be able to give contact details for organisations which specialise in particular types of problems.
More information about the service, how to contact us, how to volunteer and how to support us is available on our website: www.samaritans.org.
