RE the Bolton Academic Village.

I have noted with interest that the Bolton News has been receiving correspondence that continues to contain inaccurate information relating to the development of the Academic Village in the area to the rear of Le Mans Crescent and Moor Lane.

As developers for the project we have been involved in discussions with Bolton Council and the University for some time and we are now at the point where we feel that we can deliver the kind of high quality well designed scheme that meets the aspirations of the University and the Council and supports the regeneration of the town centre by physically connecting the Knowledge Quarter with the civic centre.

This is an extremely exciting scheme with considerable investment in to the town centre and I acknowledge that some of your correspondents have recognised and accepted this aspect.

The point I wish to make is that throughout our discussions Bolton Council have been very clear that the development has to be designed in a way which takes in to account the heritage environment within which it will sit and in particular will need to accommodate and take in to account the open aspect of the existing area behind Le Mans Crescent known as Cheadle Square. To suggest otherwise is inaccurate and misleading. In addition the University have reinforced the need for this open aspect to be retained as this will be the gateway in to the new development from the civic and retail core.

The architectural design brief will reflect this requirement and I am confident that as we engage with the planning department and key consultees such as English Heritage, The Civic Trust etc. later this year we will be able to demonstrate that we have listened and prepared a scheme which will meet the ambitions of the University, the business community in the town centre, the Council and importantly those with an interest in the historic fabric of the town.
