I REER to the story relating to Stephen Lingwood's views on selection by church schools. (Bolton News April 7)
There are many reasons why I agree with him but the most fundamental reason is as follows: it is illegal in British society to discriminate for any reason eg gender, racial heritage, age, size etc — this is as it should be but, for some reason it is legal for the Church of England and other religions to discriminate against 4/5 year old children based on the personal beliefs of their parents.
This discrimination is practised via the over subscription criteria used by church schools which are funded through our taxation system. This discrimination is then repeated at age 11. I believe it is a scandal and illustrates the total hypocrisy of Christianity.
