ADAM Cunnington’s letter on behalf of PSP Facilitating, the company partnered with Bolton Council and the University, fails to give any credit to the intelligence of the people of Bolton.

Stating that the development will bring “considerable investment” into the town centre doesn’t actually mean anything. How will it benefit the people of Bolton?

The only arguable benefit is the relocation of several hundred students (who already live within a few minutes walk of the centre) into the town centre itself. This argument suggests that the students previously avoided spending any money in the town centre but moving them a short distance would suddenly encourage them to provide a significant cash injection for town centre businesses.

PSP’s own website states that this will move will help to “support an expanding night time economy” but the obvious question to ask is what type of “night time economy” would students contribute to and isn’t this at odds with Cllr Morris’ blueprint to make the town centre more family friendly in the evenings?

Mr Cunnington writes in his letter that some critics of the plan have misunderstood the design proposal but in all fairness we have only had one drawing presented to us and I am sure most readers would welcome a more comprehensive presentation showing the plans from several different angles and perspectives.
