RE: Adam Cunnington's letter, Saturday, April 4.

After Cliff Morris and George Holmes, we have Adam Cunnington of PSP Facilitating Ltd telling us that we have all misunderstood the plans and proposals for Cheadle Square.

These are all people with a vested financial interest in seeing this development through. They are not interested in what the actual residents of Bolton think, or about what they want.

Despite all the claims about discussions with the Council and the University regarding best designs and layouts, is this really the best they could come up with? By all means build your student village on the soon to be vacated bus station site but leave Cheadle Square as a green open space and a buffer between the village and the town centre.

The illustrations in the press (which Mr Cunnington says are not the final article) resemble more of a student ghetto rather than a development sympathetic to the architectural merit of the area.

What everyone involved in this plan do not appear to understand is that the overwhelming majority of Bolton residents do not want any building to desecrate this one and only green space in what is becoming an increasingly depressing town centre.

Nobody has been able to give a justifiable explanation as to why this site was chosen ahead of the many other derelict sites around Bolton, and, which are just as close to the University. This whole plan should be subject to a public inquiry.
