REGARDING the letter 'Chancellor borrowed money because of Labours deficit' by Micheal Houlston (April 17) I guess Mr Houlston must have a Phd in economics if his knowledge of the deficit is more informed than the former governor of the Bank and England who clearly states that the deficit is not the fault of the former government, and also Ramish Patel a Tory economist who also states exactly the same.

The proof of the pudding with this so called deficit and blaming the previous government lies in the fact that austerity measures are being forced on countries all over the world because of the mess that banks have made of the global economy. I guess Mr Houlston would also blame global austerity measures in all of these other countries on the previous UK Government too?
