AS a conscientious recycler, I have already had my bin exchanged for the slim version.

The only problem with replacing all of them, as far as I can see, is that this may lead to even more plastic bags of rubbish littering our back streets. These are a complete eyesore especially when the phantom bag ripper strikes. Then the rats move in. I often wonder just whose responsibility it is to clear these bags. It does not appear to lie at the doorstep of the bin men.

The little green bins for food waste sometimes grow legs and walk. I am on my third. However, it would appear these are free to replace with a phone call to the council or on-line application. I do not see many of these in use in my neighbourhood and wonder why. Is it just too easy to throw it away?

I also wonder why the council put the onus on individuals to pay for replacement grey bins. If these too were free to replace, I am sure that some of residents of my locality who do not appear to have them, would obtain one. This too would reduce the unsightly black bag nightmare.

Perhaps we should have bin collection one day followed by plastic bag collection and street clear up the next. Anything to make the local environment better would be welcome.
