I HAD a vision.

The same as the visions they have at Bolton Council when they have their brain storming meetings. Scrap the slim bins scheme, which I doubt will make much improvement on recycling rates. I've a better idea (sorry vision) that will save £2m of public money, and stop over 100,000 old bins being scrapped and ending up in landfill.

A lot of people, especially elderly citizens, are confused about what can and cannot be recycled because of all the confusing, conflicting messages we have had from the council over the years.

A simpler plan that would only cost a few bob would be to have durable labels attached to the lids of each recycling bin. These labels would state clearly what items could be put into that specific bin. Do I hear Councillor Nick Peel saying we've already stuck labels on bins? Yes you have Nick, but it's only one label stuck on the back of the grey bin under the handle, and it's hardly readable unless you are about three foot tall or get down on your hands and knees.

Stick the labels on the lid of the recycling bins where people can see them — it's not rocket science.
