HAVING seen the appalling video of a homeless person being sprayed with a fire extinguisher, I just hope this incident will act as a wake up call to all those organisations who say they are doing all they can to help the homeless.

With an ever increasing number of homeless people appearing on the streets of Bolton, this is evidently not enough.

On the other hand there seems to be an increasing number of lowlifes who are deliberately targeting these unfortunate people, for example, the attacks near the Fred Dibnah statue and the man living under the bridge in Lever Edge Lane.

Do we really think these individuals are choosing to live like this?

The recent new that the police have withdrawn their presence from the streets on Friday nights will only exacerbate the problem.

There needs to be more accommodation and places of refuge in the town centre. There are enough empty mills and warehouses that could easily be converted for the purpose.
