As a proud Boltonian, recent events at Bolton University have tested my pride in our town.
Could the £960,000 bridging loan to vice Chancellor George Holmes to help him purchase his house have been spent on better facilities for both staff, and students?
Then there is the question of the University spending £100,000 on away days. The Vice Chancellor enjoys a salary of almost £199,000. All this information is in the public domain. The public of Bolton have a right to know about publicly funded institutions.
We have two trade-unionist dismissed by the University.
Ten high profile figures will be honoured by the university, including Amir Khan, Phil Gartside chairman of the Wanderers, and former Mayor, Labour councillor Martin Donaghy.
Given the cloud hanging over the university, it would be good if these people would refuse to accept their honours.
I focus on Cllr Martin Donaghy, as a local Labour politician, and trade-unionist, I ask him to turn down his honour, and show solidarity, with two fellow trade unionists.
