WHILST the highly toxic Giant Hogweed has been a problem for years I cannot recall ever seeing it as bad as this year.

Following a walk in Moses Gate Country Park recently I did contact Bolton MBC with my concerns on July 5. The topography of the park is such that the vast majority of plants are at the bottom of steep riverbank slopes not readily accessible to the public, but they are now migrating up the banks and clearly becoming a danger to park users.

Of course we no longer have a park ranger patrolling the site and keeping an eye on things, and no visitor centre where you can go, pick up a map and report specific areas of concern where this pernicious invasive species has found its way near to paths. Surely in a public park the council must have at least some duty of care to check and clear areas which are readily accessible to the public.
