THROUGH your columns I would like to thank the people of Bolton for all their support at this weeks Ironman UK event.
This is a really tough event to do and you need all the help you can get.
I know I speak for all the athletes when I say that when the going got the tough the people of Bolton got going. The support along the run route was second to none. The warmth and generosity of the crowds just kept us all going. The carnival atmosphere was unique as are the people of Bolton! A special and very sincere thanks to all the marshals and, in particular, the council workers who manned the various check points for many hours. You were amazing! I first did the race over seen years ago and I was amazed at how the town centre has been transformed during this period. To local residents I can only apologies for the road closures!
