I WAS lucky enough to have a seat in the stand at the 1953 Cup Final — Bolton News, "The class of '53" July 30.
Bolton was winning 3-0 at half time. Two players were injured. There were no substitutes in those days. They played on with nine fit men.
It took Blackpool until the final whistle to beat us.
The Press gave an unfair report of the match. Matthews wasn't the best player in his own team, Ernie Taylor and Stan Mortensen were the better.
The BBC said: "Holden is a pillar of strength on the Bolton right wing." He was the best player.
Arsenal football club sent a telegram to the Wanderers after the match. It was one of the best ever. It's good to see some of the players again.
