WE at Bolton Interfaith Council, always look forward to holding the “ Spirit of Bolton” event every year as it encompasses many positive aspects of our work as well as of many of our partners, various other organisations and is fully supported by Bolton Council as a ONE Bolton event.

Last Saturday we had the eight “Spirit of Bolton” in the Victoria Square, the opening ceremony led by the magnificent Swaminarayan Gadi Bag Pipe Band with the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, the Bishop of Bolton, the Vicar of Bolton, Cllr Roger Hayes, Cllr John Walsh along with guests from faith and community groups.

Sadly, the rain did not help the day with open air enjoyment with music, dances, activities, food tasting and so much more from so many diverse groups had to be held back. Still in eight years, it is only the second time it has rained so we cannot really grumble.

Having said that, when one has a look at the programme and uptake by so many groups promoting the good work for the community, fantastic activities and amazing entertainment was the kind of support this event generates for many people across Bolton.

The real ethos for the “spirit of Bolton” is all about people from our diverse communities coming together under One Bolton banner to celebrate the many positive aspects of Bolton. That once again was truly achieved and it is so important that we continue to hold such events where communities come together to share the excellent partnerships and to engage with members of the public.

I am always inspired by so many individuals who take a very valuable Saturday time out to support such events. On the day we had nearly 50 volunteers who were amazing as they saw the whole day out running around and doing every task that was to be done. It was an excellent team work event with our Young Ambassadors showing so much sense of responsibility.

I am also grateful, to Mr John Carr of Carrs Pasties who provided 120 Cheese pasties free for volunteers and stall holders, what a wonderful gesture for our town.

On behalf of everyone at Bolton Interfaith Council, our heartiest appreciation for everyone’s support which is very much valued. Well done everyone.
