E Ian Greenhalgh’s letter in Tuesday’s edition, “End school holidays law”, there is something that could be done to alleviate the problem.

Local wakes weeks were inconvenient, because one or more parents could be working in one town and children attending school in another and each would have their own holiday periods making it inconvenient to arrange family holidays.

Surely the solution is to have regional holidays, such as North West Midlands, South West etc. Then the holiday season could then be extended boosting the prospects of those who work in the holiday trade. Since all holidays would not have to be crammed into a six-week period, the prices would be more realistic. As far as I can see, regional holidays would result in a win win situation for all. What can possibly be the objection?
