THE Bolton West Tory MP Chris Green in your story of October 28, voted in favour of working tax credit cuts that will no doubt have a severe impact financially on hard working families already struggling to make ends meet with the cost of living, rents, mortgages, ever rising food and utility bills etc.

It is no good him saying employees need to increase pay — fine but when will they do it? Their so called con of a living wage will come in the near future which is no good because people need a pay rises now not next year or the year after.

Mr Green obviously doesn't understand why people in his constituency have to rely on tax credits to top up their pittance of a wage — they don't want to become dependent on them or go through the humiliating yearly pain staking form filling/online process to claim meagre additional money, but they have to claim them to simply survive and to make ends meet because their wages have stagnated over many years.

Cutting tax credits are sending thousands of people into even more poverty and financial debt.

The government's proposals would see Working Tax Payments be reduced and slashed from £ 6,420 to £3,850 and Child Tax Credits drop from £16,000 to £12,125.

Mr Green got a £7k pay rise on top of his £64k plus salary to represent the very people he now wants to lose a pittance in tax credits. I would challenge him or any MP to live off £9/10k for a full year and see how they get on! No car, no holiday, no dining out, no luxuries...just surviving not living. They would not last a month. Does he genuinely not realise how tough and brutal the real world is?

People who are willing to work should not be penalised and should be supported not put down by any elected government.

We bailed out the bankers to the tune of billions but the Tories take away the pittance that ordinary people need to try and keep afloat in modern life.

At least our two Labour MPs David Crausby and Yasmin Qureshi voted against these cuts and showed they truly are on our side and will fight for our residents in our town.

I hope Mr Green's constituents who voted for him and will now see their ever shrinking incomes evaporate even further remember this in 2020.
