READING the article about the Bolton Christmas spectacular, in the Bolton News.

What a great and exciting idea. I feel however that I must comment.

In the same paper was an article about the STEPS project and their plea for funding. This charity does an awful lot of work with people who have mental health problems. They take a lot of work and expense away from the local authority and the NHS. As people are now aware the CCG have stopped their annual funding of £50,000 to this project. The council have also refused a grant.

I really hope the CCG and the council will sleep soundly in their beds over Christmas. While they will be enjoying their exciting and spectacular Christmas I doubt they will give a thought to all these vulnerable people. (Some of whom have been saved from suicide by this project) who could also enjoy their Christmas, if their project carries on.

Also just think of the expense to the NHS and council when these people have to use their services which they most certainly will have to if the project closes. I know this isn't seen as a health issue, but if that is correct then why are there mental health beds in hospitals, which I believe cost the NHS over £250,000 a year each. I have been speaking to some of the clients in the STEPS Cafe, they are fearful of what is going to happen to them after Christmas. It is heartbreaking to hear.

I am begging the CCG and the council to to look again at their decision. After all mental health problems can affect anyone. It could affect a member of anyone's family.

I would like to wish the CCG and the Council a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for the New Year
