I WAS very sorry to read in the Bolton News that Farnworth Market which is 145 year old is due to close for good next year.

Well done Cllr Morris and the rest of Bolton Council, that's another death knell for Farnworth.

After running the market down for years, with obscure plans for redevelopment in the area and talk of a "demountable" temporary stalls the council are now saying it is closing due to lack of interest; is it any wonder?

Most of the market traders have long since moved elsewhere due to the uncertain future and disregard shown to the traders by the council. We don't want more shops in Farnworth we want a viable market which has been on this site since 1870, but will the council you listen to public opinion?

Farnworth already has too many empty and derelict shops and take-aways, why can't St Modwen redevelop some of the shops around the arcade and on Market Street or Brackley Street?

I remember my late father-in-law, who was a Farnworth councillor saying to me when Farnworth was amalgamated into Bolton borough in the 70's, "That's Farnworth finished now lad, Bolton council care nowt for Farnworth." How true his words were!
