AS Town Mayor of Horwich, I would like to extend a sincere thank you, on behalf of Horwich Town Council, to all those who attended the services and Parade of Remembrance on Remembrance Sunday.

The residents and organisations of Horwich have shown a fitting tribute to all those who gave their lives in this and many other conflicts around the world.

I would especially like to thank the British Legion who organised and marshalled the Remembrance Sunday Parade, assisted by the Horwich Air Cadets, the hospitality offered by the RMI Club, both before and after the Parade, along with all members of the voluntary, community and uniformed organisations, representative for Chris Green MP, Bolton Borough Ward Councillors and the many members of the public who joined myself and other Members of Horwich Town Council in remembering the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, in both past and present conflicts.

I would also like to thank Rivington and Adlington Brass Band for their excellent performance providing the music and a special thanks to Reverend Stephen Fletcher and the other clergy, who provided a marvellous Service of Remembrance, which was very much appreciated at the Lever Park Avenue Cenotaph. Thanks also to the police for providing assistance with the Parade.

It was also wonderful to see so many young people in the Parade and at the service. My sincere thanks to everyone for making it such a moving and memorable occasion.

The Armistice Day silence will take place tomorrow at 11am outside the Horwich Public Hall when, along with other members of the Town Council will receive representatives from the British Legion who will lay a wreath at the war memorial in the Council Chamber. Maroons will be fired to mark the silence and members of the public will be very welcome to attend this important event.

Councillor Ken Denton
