FOR years we have been debating whether or not parents should be allowed to take their children out of school for holidays in term time, find still the argument goes on.

When I worked as a maintenance engineer, when my two sons were youngsters, it wasn't always possible to take my holidays when the schools did. Many working parents are faced with this problem.

So I had to take my lads out of school in term time, or sacrifice our family holiday.

Now I understand the importance of attending school, and the problems that having time off might incur. However, I also know the value of a family holiday, memories of which can, and do, last a lifetime.

Those few short years when your children are at school fly by too quickly. Make the most of them.
