I STILL await my EU info leaflet.

However, I do not require a nudge from its contents, I will vote for Britain to remain part of the EU.

It has been difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff. Hardly any debate with the media concentrating on personalities and resignations.

We require proper debates and information for folks of all ages. I was voting age when we entered the EU. Although I support the EU, I do feel it should have concentrated on basics.

It made too many overblown decisions. But, over the years, so has Britain. The drift of the world in the early 21st century requires European unity.

Visit other European countries and yes, there are differences, thank goodness. However, there is European culture threading its way through. Visit France, Germany, Spain, the Low Countries and experience a wonderful mix of cultures. Yet there is a European feel drifting through, especially freedom of expression with no fears of the social, political or religious police.

Just as I declare myself British, not just English, I am quite happy to think of myself as European and British.

Britain has not been an independent powerhouse for decades, illustrated by the ridiculous Suez Crises — but even before that.

We have so much to offer Europe and the world but not as a lonely island off the mainland. The world's structures are fast falling apart. We are entering a dangerous period in history. Meeting these problems will require unity, strength and humanity. Europe can offer all of that. We need the togetherness and long experience of the European family.
