EVERYONE has a responsibility to pay their debts and that includes paying their rent.

A roof over ones head is not some automatic right. Someone has had to pay out to provide tenants with a home and in this case it is the taxpayers of Bolton. Each one of these taxpayers has had to work hard to provide a roof over their own head whether house owners or renters as well as pay towards the provision of other people's homes.

It is only right that Bolton at Home can expect tenants to pay their way and every help is offered to those who are struggling. Anyone of us can get into financial difficulties at some time or another, I have myself, but surely paying your rent to keep a roof over your head should be the top priority.

Social housing such as Bolton at Home is already subsidised and those on low income get help to pay their rent — all of which comes from the taxpayer. Encouraging people to ignore their obligations to pay their way in life is irresponsible. Someone else always has to pick up the tab.
