BOLTON North East Labour MP David Crausby seems to have woken up just in time for the local elections.

This time, it is about Bolton's public transport situation, which is strange considering Labour's own atrocious record towards our town.

Despite 13 years of Labour being in Government (1997-2010), which included having one of its MPs — Ruth Kelly — as Transport Secretary and its

long control of transport across Greater Manchester, a lack of improvements to Bolton's rail system and of a Metro link has been glaringly obvious to us all.

We have no rail link to Bury and (under Labour) had no electrification or major investment in our local rail network — until the election of a Conservative government in 2010.

Since then, the largest infrastructure investment in our local rail network since they were built by the Victorians has been under way, with electrification, bridge /station replacement and not forgetting the amazing re-build of Farnworth tunnel.

Across Bolton, under the Conservatives much further investment is likely along the Atherton line, through Daisy Hill, on which I am now campaigning to get a new rail station to serve the Logistics North development at Over Hulton, which along with an extension of Atherleigh Way up to the M61 would help remove congestion from the wider areas existing road network.

Mr Crausby had the cheek to say ''we've had enough broken promises and suggestions that things will be better in a few years time''.

At least today a large programme of investment and improvement for local rail users is under way, unlike the barren Labour years.
