I READ with great interest in Tory leaflets, that they are wanting to take bin collections back to weekly – a little like Labour campaigned for some years ago – although once they gained control of the council they returned the collections back to every two weeks.
I feel the need to point out to residents that Labour actually turned to a previously submitted report from Bolton’s Conservative group to slim down the bins because they were unsuccessful in their attempts to increase recycling rates.
However, if the Tories are going to put into leaflets their disagreement with the slim bins surely they should tell the whole story otherwise it could be viewed as misleading. It was the Tories who wanted to slim the bins in the first place. They’re either for it or against it, which is it?
A recent survey shows 88% of residents think the council are wrong to introduce the slim bins. But as per usual – no one has listened to what residents think. You would hope the council are at least going to make it easier to report incidents of fly tipping, provide every household with recycle bins and increase recycle facilities across Bolton.
