AT election time all parties strive to get their message across but this should not be at the expense of accuracy.

Correspondent Mr Fox for example rightly refers to the fact that it was the Conservatives who proposed the introduction of the smaller grey bin. What he fails to say is that this was only with the re-introduction of a weekly collection.

Two parts of the same proposal, not a one-sided policy.

He is similarly one sided in his statements on other matters. For example he refers to councillor’s allowances and mentions leading Labour and Conservative councillors but fails to mention that councillor Hayes, as Leader of just three Liberal Democrat councillors, also receives a special responsibility allowance. On the same matter he says Conservatives opposed cuts in allowances ignoring the fact that when at last year’s budget, Conservatives proposed a 25% cut in all allowances the three Liberal Democrat councillors voted against the proposal.

After over 40 years in politics I am all for healthy debate but let us at least have an honest one.
