IN this “age of austerity”, it seems remarkable that Bolton Council has rubber stamped plans to spend £10 million reducing the leisure facilities in the growing town of Horwich.
The plans for the new Horwich Leisure Centre:
Reduce the size of the main hall by one third.
Remove the squash courts completely.
Reduce the facilities for swimming galas.
Reduce the number of parking places, despite a large health centre being opened on the existing site.
Close the cafe.
In the looking glass world of Bolton Council, where we drive on pristine smooth roads to a thriving town centre, it must make some sense. Unfortunately, I fail to see it.
