THERE is a radical case for leaving the EU, but the national media ignore it. Here are three of its arguments :

1. If you are a Socialist, you should vote Leave. Socialism is completely incompatible with with EU regulations, which promote privatisation and market competition. The British state is not allowed for instance to use its financial power to save the British steel industry by direct intervention

2 If you are a Democrat, you should vote Leave. The EU is governed by an oligarchy which cannot be voted out. If the EU were democratic the European Parliament would be supreme. But it plays a subordinate role and cannot initiate legislation

3 If you want to promote peace and particularly if you want justice for the Palestinians you should vote Leave. The EU like NATO with which it is connected is in the pocket of the US and supports its bellicose foreign policy goals. Like the US it supports the Israeli siege of Gaza. Moreover, when, some years ago, the Palestinians voted to be governed by Hamas in free and fair elections "the EU showed no more hesitation than the US in plunging the population into misery, cutting off all aid when voters elected the wrong government" (Anderson, The New Old World)

Naturally, those of us who will vote Leave for the above reasons, welcome refugees and migrants to Britain and deplore the way our fellow human beings are treated by the EU when they try to enter Europe, either to make a better life for themselves, or, more usually, because they are fleeing the cruel wars being waged in their countries.
