RE the article regarding Shannon Court Care Home on September 8. My mother-in-law has been in the home since June, 2015.

During this time, I have found the interaction between staff and residents to be very good.

There is rarely a day goes by that entertainment of some sort is not available. Also, simple things like doing the ladies’ nails and helping all those interested to draw and crayon.

Yes, there are odd periods of quiet, but this is generally after meals, when a large number of residents want to sleep off an extremely well-cooked meal. When we were looking for somewhere for my mother-in-law, we visited a number of homes in the Bolton area and, to be honest, we were very pleased when she could get in this home as the atmosphere was good and the staff were extremely helpful.

Also, there was not an unpleasant smell around, which we found in a number of other homes.

As regards being dirty, I find this difficult to accept.

I visit twice a week and, apart from just after meals when some residents drop a certain amount of food on the floor or tables they are using, I find it extremely clean.

The said food is usually removed, sometimes by care assistants, but also by cleaners. I have written this letter on behalf of myself and another lady who was visiting today and also has no criticisms of Shannon Court.
There may have been some problems when the care commission visited, but anyone considering Shannon Court for a loved one need not be concerned.
