THE front page of the Bolton News has recently featured the serious financial plight of the town centre’s Methodist Mission Victoria Hall in Knowsley Street, venue of many spectacular concerts stretching back further than living memory.

During the past 30 years, all of my Smithills bands and choirs, Bolton Symphony Orchestra and many other organisations have performed repeatedly to packed audiences in the hall, raising countless thousands of pounds for charities ranging from Bolton Hospice and Help For Heroes to Rotary, the Lions, the RNLI and many more.

On Saturday, October 29, our award-winning Smithills musicians, singers and I are giving up another Saturday evening free of any fees whatsoever to help the Victoria Hall survive and we will be featuring a spectacular new Phantom Of The Opera finale featuring over 200 musicians singing and playing highlights from the iconic hit show.

Once again I hope that word will spread quickly and the generous people of Bolton will come and support what I trust will be another wonderful night of Smithills music as we try to do everything we can to stop another major Bolton landmark from closing down and being lost forever.
