THE vulnerability to attack of night time workers is exposed again (“Arrest made after taxi cab driver assault” Bolton News, October 4).

That it is claimed a man working alone at night in Bolton was savagely attacked through rage or for theft in a manner that can leave people permanently damaged or dead is an outrage.

When shop workers and women are attacked like this there is uproar.

When I have heard about the attacks on taxi drivers I feel fury too. They are out at night earning a living.

There is also the added serious risk to people of assaulting a person at the wheel of a vehicle on the public highway.

With nightfall should come no relaxed attitude to crime. We have long dark winter nights here. Getting out and doing things is the way of human beings. Leisure and fun is part of who we are.

Old, young and alone need to feel safe to get around. Workers in the night time economy are vital to our lives.

It is harder to work these hours than the day office hours way of life. I know, I have done both. A huge percentage of residents who contact me support CCTV in the fight against crime. CCTV can protect night time workers. The vileness of attack on workers in the night time economy needs big recognition in the courts and in the press.
