I FIND it inconceivable that Bolton Council is considering a blanket four per cent increase in council tax across the board, not only for 2017 but possibly for the next four years. That relates to a 17 per cent rise over four years when inflation is almost zero and interest rates are at ground zero.

Clifford Morris refuses to discuss the council's plans which is a travesty of transparency.

The biggest question is why a retired couple living in a four-bedroomed house should pay the same as the family of seven next door is just ridiculous.

We are means tested on everything else so why not the council tax?
