WE have a situation in Westhoughton where people are discussing large amounts of houses.

I agree with the bypass which has been put back twice in the last 20 years. The traffic has trebled in that time which is proof that it is urgently needed.

We seem to have a large fleet of heavy tipper trucks travelling down Leigh Road, and I can hear the rumble of them from my house half a mile away.

The reason I am writing this letter is to draw attention to the Town Hall area. In the recent past the pavement along Market Street from Library Street to Bolton Road was all lifted and new paving stones laid. When they had finished it looked quite good and was safe to walk on.

Unfortunately it now looks all up and down. Not one flag is level.

Next issue is the lake at the back of the library. About two years ago I went into the town hall to discuss this lake and a worker overheard and said he would clear the drains which he did.

Soon after it was the same and this is quite a large lake. I went into town last week and I noticed the grid by the wall had been cleared and today it was still clear. The lake is still there and people have started throwing things like bricks and prams into it. Out of sight out of mind springs to mind. All it needs is the pavement edging to be lifted and then clear the drains.
