I READ with interest in readers letters, regarding the proposed cycle track on Leverhulme park, that the councillors for Farnworth have stated that they would welcome it on the Harper Green Playing fields as it would help with the regeneration of Farnworth.

If that is the case, why then did the two of them vote in favour of the proposal to build it on Leverhulme park?

The proposal only won by two votes. If they and others had the courage of their own convictions, and listened to the public, they would never have voted for this totally inappropriate use of public open space.

It makes no sense to sacrifice precious open public green space anywhere for the sake of a commercial sports facility that would not even be fit for purpose just so the council can 'tick the box'.

Surely the green public playing fields in Farnworth are just as precious. There must be other sites available where this facility could be more appropriately built and to the proper standard or is it a case of 'selling off the family silver' to raise a bit of revenue?
