THE sheer cheek of Westhoughton's three Labour councillors in calling on Conservative MP Chris Green to (in their words) 'fight back' against the Government over plans by Bolton's Labour council to allow 7,000 homes to be built on supposedly protected 'Green Belt' land across Bolton over the next 20 years (Bolton News, November 8), is astounding!

They say that he should join the community fightback and that ''the people of Westhoughton are yet to hear a murmur from our local MP in Westminster'' — conveniently ignoring his raising of the issue in Parliamentary debate and his very recent petition, reported in The Bolton News and presented to their 'boss' councillor Morris.

It is Labour leader councillor Morris and his cabinet colleagues, including councillor Chadwick who unanimously approved their choice of using 'Green Belt' land for building in their Framework Submission.

As their colleague councillor Adia said in the Bolton News, October 21, and please note the words 'our' —''while our focus in Bolton is on ensuring that we develop brownfield sites first, our current projections show there are not enough of these for our economic ambitions''....''It does mean that some areas of greenbelt and greenfield land have been included.''

Councillor Chadwick and his fellow Cabinet members have approved the building of 7,000 homes on our Green Belt and as our MP Chris Green says it was Bolton Council that decided where the development and what form it took —not the Government.
