CONGRATULATIONS to the local councillors, residents and shopkeepers in the Bromley Cross and Astley Bridge areas of Bolton for the wonderful display of giant poppies on the main road lamp posts.
We often drive through the area and every time the poppies bring a smile of admiration. I've been surprised at how many Darreners have been commenting on them.
What do we have to compare with them "over the hill"? — nowt. I will be contacting our town councillors to suggest they take up the idea next year. It would make a wonderful display all along the main road and town centre.
Incidentally, Bolton parks are in good nick compared to ours in Darwen. All we get is "government cuts".
And the council-run leisure centre at Leverhulme Park is excellent although we have to pay, of course. Well done Bolton Council — please can you try to take Darwen under your wing when the next round of local government reorganisation is being thrown around?
