BOLTON TUC has a poor track record on praising solicitors.
However we fully endorse everything said by Craig Morris from Fieldings Porter regarding the grant of £300,000 to Asons Solicitors.
There is a time-honoured tradition in politics that major errors of judgement are followed by resignation. Anyone not realising that a grant of this magnitude would cause public outrage shows a level of naivety not befitting the most senior posts in the council.
It is time to call for the resignation of the officers and politicians who have been involved in subsidising Asons while proposing cuts to services for the disabled and other vulnerable members of the Bolton family.
These resignations must be led by Councillor Cliff Morris, council leader.
We also call for the resignation of chief executive Margaret Asquith. Her salary of £170,000 includes final responsibility for signing off all decisions made under Emergency Powers.
We don't need an inquiry at yet more cost to the public's fast-emptying purse. We simply require a statement by our leaders explaining how this outrageous decision was arrived at, followed by letters of resignation.
Bolton TUC looks forward to helping to build a Labour Party in Bolton with the ideals promoted by Jeremy Corbyn, not Theresa May or Nigel Farage — a party serving everyone, not just a privileged few.
