I WAS shocked and appalled by the actions of the neo nazi 'demonstrators' in town on Saturday. These were not concerned people of Bolton but nasty and bigoted individuals brought in from elsewhere to spread hate.

I was there on Saturday and saw first hand nazi salutes mere yards from our town's war memorial. Pictures from the local and national press confirm what we all saw. Regardless of political persuasion, this cannot and should not be tolerated.

In this Remembrance month, how can be it be right that they can come to out town with swastika tattoos, chanting vile slogans and giving Nazi salutes? One was even photographed arrogantly taunting counter demonstrators with his nazi tattoo while wearing a poppy pin badge. There can only contempt be for these people.

I hope and call on all leaders of the parties on Bolton Council to condemn the behaviour of the protestors and stand firmly together on this regardless of differences on local and national policy. I also call on them to work together to ensure that these people are no longer allowed to demonstrate in this way in front of our war memorial.
