THE excellent news from Bolton West's Conservative MP Chris Green that the Government is planning a massive investment into our local road network 'Northern Corridor', including the long awaited A5225 Westhoughton/Atherton/Over Hulton by-pass-emphasises the marked difference between Labour and Conservative government's transport investment in Bolton.

As with our local rail network — which is undergoing large-scale infrastructure investment as part of the electrification of the line through Bolton —Conservative promises are kept, unlike the last Labour Government which 'sat on its hands' for 13 years, including having the then Bolton west MP Ruth Kelly as Transport Secretary, doing nothing and as regards the A5225 actively opposing the by-pass.

Labour has a bad record on improving Bolton's transport network, from cancelling the 'PICC-VIC' rail line, the A5225 and actively allowing the former Bolton-Bury-Radcliffe rail route to be developed.

As for comments from Bolton's cabinet member for transport Cllr David Chadwick, who should be positively supporting Chris Green's campaign for the A5225, especially as he is a Westhoughton councillor, his very negative stance on the news, calling it 'pie in the sky' and equally negative 'anti-Brexit' position, won't be forgotten by his Westhoughton South constituents of which I am one.

It is us who have to bear the brunt of the regular congestion and 'grid-lock' that the delay in construction causes.

When built, the through traffic that 'plagues' Leigh Road, Park Road,Wigan Road and Newbrook Road will be removed, as will the pollution, vibration and road safety issues. We should all work together to make it a reality.

It is Bolton's Labour politicians that are 'pie in the sky' when it comes to transport investment.
