I WAS saddened but not surprised to read your article about Farnworth's poor Christmas tree and decorations.

Farnworth has always been bottom of the list compared to Bolton and surrounding towns when it is a matter of Bolton council spending money on the town.

Compared to Bolton's Christmas lights Farnworth's are a disgrace.

What are our local councillors doing to support Farnworth? Absolutely nothing as far as I am aware.

The only local councillor that seems to get anything done is Cllr. Sue Harworth, but being a councillor for Harper Green ward her hands are tied, and she has no say in matters concerning Farnworth's town centre.

While millions of pounds have been spent on Bolton town centre recently, the proposed joint redevelopment of Farnworth by the council and the developer St Modwen has still not be started, after more than 10 years of broken promises.

All we are left with are a load of empty shops in the Market Precinct, a derelict site where the open market once stood, and an outdated bus station.

The controversial £300K given by Cliff Morris to Asons solicitors would have been better spent on Farnworth along with the money given by Tesco years ago to help with its redevelopment.

I have lived in Farnworth over 50 years and have seen what was once a proud town being ruined by Bolton council's apathy. I am now ashamed to say, when asked, that I come from Farnworth.
