HOW many of us, as we grow older, wonder how much longer we will feel able to drive? The roads are much busier than when we passed our driving test and there seem to be so many reckless and selfish drivers around.

Do we have grown up sons or daughters suggesting it might be time to think about giving up our car altogether – but this would put paid to our independence!

But can we do something to make sure our driving is up to scratch and to reassure our families?

We could ask for a free driving assessment with an observer from the Bolton & District Group of Advanced Motorists. He or she will sit beside us in our own car and will be supportive and helpful. They may say that our driving is fine – or they may suggest some things that would help – for example – improving observation and forward planning.

We could perhaps consider taking a driving course to brush up your skills and be able to say, with confidence, that we are now an above average driver and safe to drive for many more years.

The Bolton Group’s next course begins at 7pm on Thursday, February 2 2017 at Lostock Parish Centre, Tempest Road, Lostock, BL6 4EL. Age is no barrier – an 86-year-old recently took the course and passed his advanced Test.
