IT is good to see 2,500 residential roads in Bolton now are 20mph zones which amounts to two thirds of side roads at a cost of £500.000.

Although back in 2013 when a motion was carried Bolton Council Cllr Nick Peel had reservations about what he cited as £1.2million cost, saying it was a question of priorities, so the scheme was put on hold.

It was pointed out at the time by myself and others that the cost could be much lower, and that Manchester City council had already done theirs at a cost of £500,000, so Cllr Nick Peel figure of £1.2 million for Bolton was a little over top.

I and Bolton Green Party have been campaigning for safer roads, and 20mph zones since 2011, and we welcome Cllr Nick Peel conversion over the years. Our roads are now much safer for our children, grandchildren, and the elderly.
