I REFER to Harry Houghton's letter of March 7 "Labour is all spin." Firstly I will like to thank him for reading our Little Lever and Darcy Lever Labour party newsletter which for the record, is funded directly by the Labour group, and not paid for by Bolton people as he misleading states. I do not have an issue with a different expression of political views. However I would suggest any alternative view should have the bases of logic to contribute to a debate regarding policy.

The aim of our newsletter is to explain our political campaigns and activities which are enhancing our communities. Obviously Mr Hoghton does not accept this and has made a desperate attempt to disguise the direct impact of current Conservative and previous Liberal Democrat coalition policies. This narrative is being further compounded by a deceitful local coalition of political opposition parties who seek to undermine any potential improvements in a cynical attempt for populist grandstanding.

It is the case that the austerity policies have directly led to cuts through massively reduced government funding affecting local councils and the NHS services.

Sadly Mr Hoghton chooses to be critical of those that are trying to alleviate the challenges of unemployment and job creation which is having a negative impact on living standards and health wellbeing of Bolton communities. This was demonstrated in his comment regarding the new employment not being in the town centre. This is blatantly over simplistic and disingenuous to those who have worked hard to bring new jobs to town. Perhaps he could share his wisdom of the exact location in Bolton town centre where a major logistics hub could have been built instead?

On a positive note in answer to his main concern regarding flying tipping — he simply needs to contact the council environment department to report incidents and they will take the appropriate action. Let's hope that department at least does not face more challenging budget cuts which he appears to reject any such notion

Moving into the current decade will enable him to understand the complexity of economic policy rather than throwing up smoke and mirrors of the past to distract from the reality of a failing government austerity and divisive politics.
