THE excellent news on the front page of the Bolton News' 'sister' paper-the Leigh Journal, concerning TfGM's decision to finally consider developing a rail station for Leigh (at Kenyon Junction) illustrates yet again that once Conservatives are elected they 'get things done' with local Conservative Cllr. James Grundy supporting local residents in a five year campaign to persuade those in authority.

If this station becomes a reality it will have the effect of taking pressure off Daisy Hill station and its associated car-parking problems that has made local peoples' lives a misery as many people travel up to Daisy Hill from Leigh and Hindley Green due to a lack of any suitable alternative.

Daisy Hill is now to undergo a proposed parking restriction scheme which unfortunately won't solve the indiscriminate parking on local roads, but just move it farther away.

Only by opening new stations like that at Kenyon Junction and another station at Dobb's Brow to serve 'west' Westhoughton/Hindley Green, whilst 'double-decking' Daisy Hill's existing car-park (east) will the problem go away. Fortunately our local MP for Bolton West Chris Green despite a lack of enthusiasm from Bolton council on the 'double-decking', has nevertheless got his point over with TfGM which has indicated will hopefully be able to take over local stations such as Daisy Hill to carry out such schemes as this.

I was also pleased to discuss with the Conservatives GM elected Mayoral candidate Sean Anstee a few weeks ago at Daisy Hill station on our proposals for the station and other improvements that would benefit Bolton's rail network if he is elected on May 4, he was positive on pursuing these and the possibility of Bolton getting a Metrolink.

With the massive investment in Bolton's rail network, including electrification reaching completion, a Westhoughton by-pass now accepted by Government and support for improvements to local stations, only the election of Sean Anstee as GM Mayor and the re-election of Bolton West MP Chris Green will enable these to become a reality.
