BOLTON’S Conservative leader, Cllr David Greenhalgh, has made a withering complaint that the Bolton Labour Party hired the Festival Hall to hold a political event.

Has he not forgotten that the Bolton Conservative Party did exactly the same thing for a political event on August 20, 2009?

On that day in the Festival Hall, none other than David Cameron, the then leader of the opposition, gave a speech to Conservative Party members.

Perhaps Cllr Greenhalgh was not invited to this event, or could not get a ticket, but it was all reported in The Bolton News at the time.

Of course, therefore, the Bolton Labour Party had every right to hold an event at the weekend in our town hall, just like the Conservatives have done in the past.

If Cllr Greenhalgh now feels so strongly that the town hall should not be used in the future by his party, he has in effect made a complete U-turn from the past, and he has made that decision on behalf of all of his Conservative Party members in Bolton.

I hope that none disagree with him because it seems like tough luck. However, the Bolton Labour Party will continue to use Bolton Town Hall for events because it is a fantastic venue which Labour Party members are proud of and everyone who attended on Saturday thoroughly enjoyed an excellent evening.
