THE Lancaster Climate Action are at odds with empirical, ‘peer reviewed’ scientific evidence when according to Sarah Shore one of the protesters who prostrated themselves in the middle of the road said about the fracking industry that it, “causes catastrophic climate change” (Anti fracking campaigners blockade industrial site, May 3)

Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) as a means of extracting gas/oil from beneath the surface is nothing new and has been carried out since 1947. It is widely used with no appreciable environmental damage.

Climate change, catastrophic or otherwise has been happening on this planet for a lot longer than humans have been burning fossil fuels. And there is no good reason, scientific or otherwise to suppose that it will cease anytime soon. Even if humans do stop burning these fossil fuels and revert to a stone-age like existence, as is promulgated by Lancaster Climate Action and all the other environmental groups in order to save us and “Mother Gaia” ‘or whatever the new name for the planet Earth is these days from our impending doom.
